Video: NSS Reveals Drug Trafficking Case by Transnational Group
Employees of the National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of operations aimed at combating drug trafficking, have uncovered a significant drug smuggling case.
According to preliminary data, a 23-year-old woman, who holds dual citizenship of Iran and Armenia, attempted to send approximately 900 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a sewing thread spool via postal service to Australia. The recipient was to extract the drugs using a scraping method from the dried pieces.
Acting on operational data regarding the smuggling, NSS employees discovered the hidden drugs during the postal shipment inspection. Following this, a search conducted at the citizen's residence revealed around 25 kilograms of curtain fabric completely soaked in raw opium resin. In addition, this piece had been further processed with a coffee solution to avoid detection of the drugs.
This batch of drugs was also intended to be sent to Australia via postal service. The search also uncovered a greenish substance resembling marijuana at the residence.
A criminal case has been initiated at the NSS Investigation Department based on the apparent crime, under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia. The individual has been arrested.
Coordinated urgent operational and investigative measures are underway with the special services of partner states to identify other members of the transnational criminal group.
