Systemic Corruption Eradicated in Armenia: Avinyan

“Systemic corruption has been eradicated in Armenia since the 'Velvet Revolution'. This statement was made by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan at the ‘Corporation America’ international compliance and anti-corruption conference on September 24.

According to him, transparency and accountability are important facets of government work, and this approach to work has no alternatives in either the public or private sectors.

“Recently, the process of developing an anti-corruption strategy has begun. The goal is to completely reconsider public governance. This indicates that conceptual framework works will be implemented in the areas of service delivery and human resource management,” he noted, adding that the unification of efforts from all interested parties, including businesses and civil society, is of great importance.

Avinyan emphasized that the private sector is also under the attention of the authorities in the fight against corruption, and the government seeks to create favorable conditions for businesses and form a conducive investment environment.

“Business must adhere to the rules of the state, and at the same time, the role of business activities in the eradication of corruption is immense. The private sector must strive to comply with state and international legislation. The transparency and publication of the actual owners of companies are crucial in the fight against corruption,” he summarized.

It is worth noting that more than 120 representatives from Argentina, the USA, Germany, Spain, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, and Armenia participated in the event.

Recall that in 2001, the Armenian government signed an agreement with Eduardo Eurnekian's ‘Corporation America’ company regarding the concession management of ‘Zvartnots’ airport for 30 years, and later a similar agreement was also signed regarding ‘Shirak’ airport.

To date, the volume of investments in the modernization of both airports exceeds 160 million dollars.
