Zhamanak: Government to Allow Sale of Fertile Soil Layer
Zhamanak newspaper reports that the Armenian government intends to amend the Land Code and allow the sale of fertile soil layers. According to point 5 of Article 35 of the current code, "When carrying out construction and mining works, the fertile soil layer is removed and used for improving less productive soils. The sale of the fertile soil layer is prohibited."
The government proposes to rewrite this point as follows: "When carrying out construction and mining works, the fertile soil layer is removed and used for improving less productive soils. The sale of the fertile soil layer is permitted by a government decision." It remains unclear to whom the Armenian government plans to sell the fertile soil layer.
