Gagik Khachatryan Arrested by NSS

In the framework of a criminal case initiated on February 2, 2019, by the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, extensive operational-search measures and investigative actions were conducted for a prolonged period. Based on the factual data obtained, searches were carried out on August 27, 2019, at the residences of Gagik Khachatryan, the former chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia and the former Minister of Finance, as well as several individuals closely associated with him.

On the same day, following the completion of the searches, Gagik Khachatryan and Karen Khachatryan (a former senior official of the SRC) were apprehended on suspicion of committing crimes under part 2 of Article 308 and part 3, clause 1 of Article 179 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of official power resulting in serious consequences and misappropriation of property on a particularly large scale). They were taken to the Investigative Department of the NSS and arrested. The pre-trial investigation continues.
