VIDEO: Major Fire at the Foot of Mount Ara Contained but Not Extinguished
The fire that broke out near the sand quarry at the foot of Mount Ara in Kotayk Province on the morning of August 20 has still not been extinguished. Emergency Ministry regional rescue teams sent two operational groups along with two fire-fighting units to the scene.
As of 18:30, approximately 150 hectares of grassland are burning in the area. By 23:20, four operational groups from the Emergency Ministry's regional rescue service, seven fire-fighting units, two special rescue teams from the rescue forces administration (totaling 82 firefighters), 18 forestry workers, and about 75 local residents are participating in the firefighting efforts.
The fire was contained at 02:15. In Kotayk Province, around 1300 hectares of grassland are burning, while 500 hectares are affected in Aragatsotn Province. Further information will be provided.
Notably, the governor of Aragatsotn Province, Davit Gevorgyan, reported on his Facebook page that the fire is almost extinguished and will soon be completely put out. “During this time, two more fire hotspots ignited in Saghmosavan, which have also been extinguished,” he noted.
