Every step of ours now determines the future of our country. This was stated by Varazdat Karapetyan, a member of the "My Step" faction, on his Facebook page. Below is the full text of the post:

“The legacy we have inherited is poor - dozens of tailings dumps and mines that poison our lives and water sources, distorting our essence. There are no mines without risks. It is unbelievable that we will manage the risks that our generations will inherit in the form of acidic drainages, toxic rains, polluted springs, and rivers as a result of our actions today.

The global mining industry giant operates against us, with its supporters, institutions, finances, and experts. And now we are faced with a choice: to follow the laws imposed on us by the miners in our own country and allow another hole to be opened in our mountains, or to break the accepted order and declare that we are the masters of our country.

It does not matter what forces support whom, what intrigues they concoct against each other or against us. What matters is our value - a free, sovereign, and immaculate present for our country. The natural law of morality is above the constitution and the laws.

The company claiming rights over the Amulsar resources is not fair towards us and our country. No independent examination can deny the hundreds of risks and threats to life. My request to everyone now (especially to Armenians who, willingly or unwillingly, serve the miners) is to help ensure that the government does not make a mistake. Provide the government with the grounds for a new environmental impact assessment to be conducted.
