Dangerous Dyes Found in Sauces and Spices Sold in Georgia

The Georgian NGO 'Strategic Research and Development' has tested 42 samples of local and foreign sauces and spices sold in Georgia at a laboratory in Germany to check for the presence of harmful dyes.

As a result, banned dyes were found in 6 types of sauces and spices. The research indicated that 'Sudan 1' was present in five of those samples. Consumers have been advised to refrain from using these spices, which may pose health risks.

'In many cases, the concentration of harmful dyes in these products is small, but their frequent use can contribute to the formation of tumors or mutations in genes,' stated the 'Georgian Strategic Research and Development Center.'

Sudan group dyes are commonly used in the production of diesel fuel, as well as for dyeing textiles or drugs in laboratories. 'Sudan 1' is often used in adulterated spices, subsequently contaminating the foods prepared from them.
