National Security Council Secretary Responds to BBC Publication: Is This Not a Threat from a Security Perspective?

From a security perspective, it would naturally be better if those documents had not come to the attention of that media outlet, but now that they have, it is the responsibility of the relevant bodies.

Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the National Security Council, stated this during a conversation with journalists after a government meeting, referring to the publication by the BBC Russian service regarding the "March 1" case.

When asked if this poses a threat from a security standpoint, Grigoryan responded: “No country in the world has resolved this issue, and everyone is concerned with the question of secrecy. A vivid example of this is WikiLeaks, where all the secret documents of one of the world’s most powerful countries, America, ended up in the media. We are not insured against this, but we are working to minimize that risk.”

In response to the inquiry about the possibility of documents related to Armenia's security ending up even in hostile countries, the Secretary of the Security Council stated that they are doing everything to prevent any leakage and that there are mechanisms in place, along with laws regarding secrecy.

When asked if he guarantees that these documents did not reach the hands of the BBC with the support of officials or representatives of the government, Grigoryan said: “The responsible body must conduct an investigation and understand why these documents ended up in that media outlet; it is too early to talk about this right now.”

As to how the investigation should take place, and whether it should occur at the Special Investigation Service (SIS), Armen Grigoryan reiterated that investigative bodies will determine how these documents came to the BBC.

When asked if, as the Secretary of the Security Council, he is concerned about this issue, Grigoryan replied: “Naturally, not only I but anyone responsible for security is concerned. It is very important for us that there is no leakage of confidential information because secrecy also means security and safety.”

As for where he sees shortcomings, he said that it is necessary to investigate and understand.
