Government Increases Monthly Payments for Mandatory Military Servicemen
In a recent government decision, the monthly monetary allowances for mandatory military servicemen have been raised. The increase amounts to 2000 drams for personnel stationed in units performing combat duties near the adversary, while other units will see an increase of 1000 drams.
Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan stated that the draft decision was coordinated with relevant bodies and received approval during the meeting of the ministerial financial committee. “The amounts are very symbolic, but we must note that we need to rely on the base we have. Our decision is indeed symbolic, but in comparison to the base, we are significantly increasing the amounts, in some cases even more than double. I believe this is a very symbolic and important step, and we should acknowledge that the amounts are not large at all. We hope that as a result of our work, we will be able to make decisions that will provide us with satisfaction in terms of these payments,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during the government meeting discussing the decision.
Tonoyan also mentioned that the enlisted personnel will be satisfied with this increase. As a result of this decision, the additional expenses for the first six months of 2019 will amount to 228,942,000 drams, with funding coming from the allocations for monetary allowances and salaries designated for the Ministry of Defense in the state budget of Armenia for 2019.
This decision will come into effect on the day following its official publication and will apply to relationships that arose after July 1, 2019.
