Police Officers from Davtashen and Mashtots Submit Resignation Letters in Support of Officer A. Khachatryan
Police officers from Davtashen and Mashtots have submitted their resignation letters to join the protests supporting Officer Andranik Khachatryan, whose bail conditions have not been changed. This was announced via a live broadcast on Facebook by Hayk Stepanyan, one of the supporters of the officer.
“It turns out that two precincts have filed reports, and they are resigning to support our friend Andranik,” he said. According to him, such a situation has arisen due to the courts, which are not yet as they wish them to be. “Time and again, political decisions are made regardless of the essence of the case. In protest against this, the police officers have submitted their resignation letters, and those who are no longer employed have previously submitted their letters to join our protests,” he stated.
Stepanyan also addressed police officers, noting that they are trying to defend their rights, so that while working in the police system, they are aware that if someone is detained, the court does not impose a 12-year sentence for torture as a verdict.
It should be reminded that a group of citizens had organized a protest in front of the National Assembly. They were chanting “Freedom for Andranik” and “I am Andranik,” demanding the release of Officer Andranik Khachatryan, who was recently detained.
They are calling on the Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan to liberate Khachatryan and insist that he did not abuse his official powers but acted according to orders.
It is worth recalling that David Khajakyans, a member of the “Lus” alliance of Yerevan, had approached Police Chief Valery Osipyan about a month ago, reporting that police officers had beaten his relative. Subsequently, a criminal case was initiated in the Special Investigation Service concerning torture, abuse of official powers, and official forgery. Two police officers were charged, and a court motion was submitted for their detention. The court had selected a measure of restraint for Andranik Khachatryan.
