VIDEO: The Municipality Lacks a Professional Legal Team; Otherwise, It Would Utilize the Contract with Sanitek and Announce a New Operator Contest, Says David Khajakyan
David Khajakyan, a member of the Yerevan Council from the ‘Luz’ faction, stated in an interview with Tert.am that if the municipality had a professional legal team, it would be able to use the contract signed with Sanitek and announce a new operator contest.
“The municipality simply does not demonstrate a professional approach. As far as I understand, they are trying to solve the problem in that way. It is evident that garbage collection in the capital has failed, but instead of the municipality attempting to resolve this and terminate one of the contracts, they have tried to work in parallel. However, since the municipal entity is not cooperating with Sanitek and their activities are not coordinated, the issues remain relevant,” Khajakyan noted.
According to him, there has been a garbage collection problem in the capital for three years, especially during the summer months. Khajakyan added that it was clear back in October-November of the previous year that the situation was set to worsen, considering Sanitek’s capabilities, and it was at that time that new investments should have been made.
“Discussions took place with the municipality, as a result of which no actions were taken, and Sanitek continued to inadequately perform garbage collection in the capital, while the municipality did not take measures to resolve these issues. As a result, the situation indeed worsened. The municipality is currently not negotiating with Sanitek and claims that with the existing resources, including the newly established community entity, they will be able to carry out garbage collection,” said Khajakyan.
