Residents of Voghjaberd to Receive Compensation

The governor of Kotayk province, Romanos Petrosyan, paid a working visit to the Voghjaberd community today, June 19, where residents held a protest the day before. According to the governor's office, the agenda for the visit focused on providing compensation to residents of the landslide-prone area, a longstanding concern.

Romanos Petrosyan arrived in Voghjaberd with a solution package. He met with residents to discuss the issues related to the landslide zone. The governor informed the Voghjaberd residents that effective steps are already being taken towards resolving the problem.

“In the first phase, 10 families in the most hazardous condition will receive compensation from the reserve fund of the 2019 state budget. In the second phase, an additional 49 families in risky situations will also be compensated; their needs will be assessed in parallel, and in the third phase, we will complete the program with the prospect of compensation for another 47 families,” the governor stated during the meeting with locals.

In the coming 2-3 weeks, a working group will be formed consisting of representatives from the provincial urban development department, the State Committee on Urban Development, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Voghjaberd community administration. An expert team will start working on assessing the needs of the residents of the landslide zone.

The governor assured that 106 families will receive compensation proportionate to their damages, and the issue is now on the agenda of the government and the Kotayk provincial administration.
