Residents of Aragatsavan Block Road All Night, Joined by Other Villages

Residents of the Aragatsavan community in the Aragatsotn province have continued to block the Yerevan-Gyumri interstate highway and the Yerevan-Gyumri railway since noon on May 29. They remained at the site throughout the night. The villagers are protesting against the irrigation water tariff. Residents of the community informed NEWS.am about this on May 29.

It should be noted that residents of Aragatsavan have been complaining for a month about the decision made by JOM to calculate the amount charged for irrigation water based on liters instead of hectares, which would significantly increase the cost of irrigating a hectare of land.

"The road has been closed since yesterday morning, and we will keep it closed for as long as necessary until we receive a response. We didn’t expect such indifference. Trucks are stuck, people are waiting, but until now, there has been no response. We will go to the end," one of the villagers told NEWS.am. Participants in the protest have warned that if their issue is not addressed by the authorities, they will block the main water pipeline in the Talin region with stones.

Additionally, residents of neighboring Karakert and Arteni villages have joined the protest.
