This is an assassination attempt: Vardan Ghukasyan on the incident involving his nephew at Artik Penitentiary
Member of Parliament Vardan Ghukasyan claims that an assassination attempt was carried out on the night of May 19 against his nephew Vahe Ghukasyan, who is serving a sentence at the Artik Penitentiary. In an interview with NEWS.am, Vardan Ghukasyan shared details about the incident that occurred in the detention facility.
“In the night, they opened the door to Vahe's cell and attacked him while he was asleep—in a manner similar to the Safarov incident. A 150 kg, muscular man began to strike the sleeping Vahe. He attempted to kill him, slitting his throat, and stabbed him in the chest with a knife; the knife bent because the boy fought back,” he stated, asserting that the cell door had been deliberately left open.
The MP refuted the information provided by the penitentiary service that both participants in the incident were inmates of the same cell.
Ghukasyan pointed out that the two convicted individuals had never had any conflicts with each other prior, and that according to his uncle's account, Vahe Ghukasyan had always taken care of the inmate who attacked him.
He expressed his belief that the assassination attempt had been ordered; otherwise, he claimed, the cell door would not have been left open.
According to Ghukasyan, two days have passed since the incident, yet law enforcement agencies have not taken any steps to punish the guilty party.
“If, by chance, my dog does something to someone else's dog, they will write that Vardan Ghukasyan's dog has done something; it has been two days since the incident, and I am waiting to see why they are not taking action,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that an incident occurred between two inmates at the Artik Penitentiary on May 19.
According to close associates, Vahe Ghukasyan, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of Artem Karapetyan, known as Sheko, was attempted to be stabbed.
