Emergency Situation in Yerevan: Residents of Rubinyants Street Block the Road
Traffic has been paralyzed for more than half an hour on Rubinyants Street in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district of Yerevan. Residents of the neighboring apartment buildings have once again blocked the road, demanding that the Yerevan municipality fulfill its promise, made back in April of this year, to install traffic lights in the area after an artificial unevenness was created. They assert that the lack of traffic lights has been a reason for numerous pedestrian accidents in the area, as reported by Shamshyan.com.
“We have applied many times—both in writing and verbally, and even during meetings at the site. During one of the last meetings, they promised that traffic lights would be installed, but those words have turned out to be untrue.
We don’t want much—just a traffic light! Countless lives can be saved with that traffic light. So, what now? Is a human life less valuable than a traffic light?”
Currently, negotiations are being conducted with the residents by Ruben Navasardyan, head of the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative division, and Davit Avagyan, deputy head of the Yerevan traffic police. However, residents express their distrust, stating that the issue will not be resolved until their promised traffic lights are installed. Traffic in the area remains halted at this time.
