Major Fraud Case Prevented by NSS

Major Fraud Case Prevented by NSS

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has uncovered and prevented a major fraud case carried out by an organized group as part of its functions in combating crime through operational-investigative measures and a comprehensive set of investigative actions.

According to initial data obtained from the NSS press center, Armenian citizens A.Sh. and N.H., as part of an organized criminal group, disseminated false information regarding the allocation of land for the cemetery in the community of Dzoraghbyur in Kotayk Province and fraudulently appropriated a substantial amount—totaling 1,932,000 AMD equivalent in US dollars—from numerous citizens who had legally applied for burial plots since the summer of 2018.

Specifically, N.H., according to the preliminary role distribution, represented himself as the authorized person regulating the allocation of land plots at the cemetery to many citizens who had applied for burials. In order to gain their trust, he even visited the cemetery and showed available plots. After agreeing on a price, he fraudulently took the money and transferred it to his accomplice, receiving his share.

A criminal case has been initiated at the NSS investigative department under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, charges have been filed against two individuals, and preventative measures have been chosen.

An investigation is underway.

Notice: The suspect or accused of the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
