Young Man Throws Grenade at His Mother's Husband's Feet in Yerevan

The military prosecutor's office of Yerevan has sent the case of a brutal murder that occurred in Yerevan last April to the city court.

This information comes from the judicial information system.

According to the indictment, Andrey Khalilyan, with the intent to facilitate the murder of Khachik Harutyunyan, and having the intention to unlawfully take the life of two individuals, fatally injured Gevorg Matosyan with a weapon in the barn of the house located at 1st alley of 11th Aygestan street around 11:00 AM on April 10, 2018. Subsequently, in the living room of the same house, with the intent to deliberately damage another's property, he used an F-1 type hand grenade, which he had illegally obtained and kept, causing significant damage. After that, he attempted to kill Khachik Harutyunyan in the yard of the house with a weapon, but the murder was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control.

Preliminary investigation data indicate that the murder occurred more than a month before the body was discovered by the victim's acquaintance's son.

Specifically, it has been established that the victim's friend lived in the house along with his de facto wife and their one-year-old child. According to testimonies, there were regular disputes in the family on domestic issues, during which violence was also inflicted on the woman. The son, who had been serving in the military since January 2017, learned about the incident and wished to take revenge. In April 2018, during a short-term leave, the young man returned home and, with the intention of avenging his mother’s husband, first inflicted life-threatening injuries on the householder with a weapon in the barn, then threw the grenade at the feet of his mother's husband and subsequently struck him on the head with the weapon. The man sustained minor injuries.

Thus, Andrey Khalilyan has been charged under four articles of the RA Criminal Code, specifically under part 2, clause 1 and clause 11 of article 104 (murder to facilitate the commission of another crime), part 1 of article 235 (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation or carrying of explosive devices), part 2, clause 1 of article 185 (deliberately destroying or damaging someone else's property through explosion), and part 1 of article 333 (false denunciation related to a serious or particularly serious crime).

As a measure of restraint, detention has been chosen for Khalilyan. The case has been assigned to the judge Armen Vardapetyan of the Yerevan city court.
