Mayor Calls for Removal of New Trash Bins Near Wealthy Homes

The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, addressed the issue of urban cleanliness during a consultation at the city hall today. This was reported by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Yerevan city administration. It has been noted that the city administration is dissatisfied with the overall cleanliness of the city.

“Since the moment ‘Sanitek’ took on the responsibility for keeping the capital clean, has anything changed in Yerevan? Everything in the city is the same; the people are the same, and so is the funding you receive. However, the city is facing serious problems today. What has happened? If there is a need, and you must increase salaries or involve new manpower, then do it. The key is to maintain the cleanliness of the city,” he stated.

A representative from ‘Sanitek’ mentioned that additional challenges in the sanitation process arise from overloaded construction vehicles that dirty the streets with construction materials during transit. The Mayor has instructed to coordinate with the traffic police to take measures and fine such drivers.

Marutyan also addressed the issue of trash bins, emphasizing that in several central streets, there are burnt or damaged bins, while new bins are consistently placed next to several luxury homes. “As you ascend from Freedom Square towards Babayan Street, the trash bins are burnt, broken, or even completely absent. As you walk along the sidewalk opposite Victory Park, next to the wealthy houses, you see new bins. Remove those bins today and place them in the areas where thousands of our citizens pass by. In the courtyard areas, it doesn’t matter who lives there, you should place regular bins. If residents of that neighborhood want upgrades, let them do it at their own expense,” the Mayor emphasized, addressing the representative of ‘Sanitek.’
