Charges Filed Against 22-Year-Old for Killing Two Brothers in Gyumri
The investigation into the murder of two individuals in Gyumri has concluded with charges filed against a 22-year-old resident of the city, born in 1997, as reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, particularly the department for criminal cases against individuals.
Previously, the Investigative Committee had informed that on May 17, 2018, a shooting incident occurred on Ghukasyan Street in Gyumri, resulting in fatal injuries to two local residents, who are nephews of a relative, born in 1981 and 1985.
A criminal case was launched by the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee, based on signs of murder, and the investigation was carried out by the central department for criminal cases against individuals.
Throughout the inquiry, extensive investigative actions have been conducted, operational and investigative measures implemented, and several examinations assigned, with their conclusions received, revealing multiple circumstances of the case, the motive for the murder, and the identity of the alleged perpetrator, a resident of Gyumri born in 1997.
According to data collected in the pre-trial proceedings, the young men sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds around 5:00 PM on May 17 during a dispute regarding household issues on Ghukasyan Street in Gyumri.
Specifically, on the day of the incident, around 3:30 PM, the 22-year-old engaged in a dispute with the brother of one of the victims on Teryan Street in Gyumri and physically assaulted him.
Later, to clarify the incident, the parties met on Ghukasyan Street, during which the 22-year-old, illegally armed with an AK-74 assault rifle of 5.45mm caliber, fired multiple shots at the brothers with the intention of unlawfully taking their lives, posing a danger to the residents in nearby areas and homes, causing fatal gunshot injuries.
Based on sufficient evidence obtained, the 22-year-old has been charged under the second part of Article 104, points 1 and 6, and Article 235, part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been taken into custody as a preventive measure.
The completion of the pre-trial investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the court with an accusatory conclusion.
