Young Man Posing as Colonel's Nephew Steals Car in Yerevan

A car theft incident occurred in Yerevan. Yesterday, April 7, at around 11:00 PM, the operational management center of the Yerevan Police received a call from L. T., who reported that just 5 minutes prior, a taxi service Opel, license plate 34 ZA 133, had been stolen near the Zoo on Myasnikyan Avenue.

Police officers managed to locate the Opel and, following it, were able to bring it to a stop near the Northern Avenue.

It turns out that the driver was 24-year-old Hovhannes Khmelian, a resident of the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan.

According to reports, Khmelian had been convicted under Article 178, Part 2, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code in November 2018 but was released due to amnesty.

He was taken to the New Nork Police Division with the stolen vehicle, where investigative materials regarding the incident are being prepared.

During the pursuit, Khmelian also damaged two vehicles. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.

Photojournalists report that Khmelian claims to be the nephew of Colonel Samvel Khmelian, the acting head of the Armavir regional police, yet, according to SHAMSHYAN.com, they have had no contact for over 20 years. Khmelian has repeatedly exploited Khmelian's name for his own benefit.
