Entered a Food Point, Threatened with a Knife, But Did Not Report to the Police
On April 2, police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Yerevan city administration conducted an operation based on received intelligence, detaining 28-year-old Koryun Mkrtchyan, a resident of the Ch’amitci Street in Abovyan. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamyan, he is suspected of committing a robbery under the threat of a knife at a fast-food establishment located at 11 Koryuni Street in the central administrative district of Yerevan around 5:00 AM on April 1.
According to G. Shamshyan, the employees of the food point did not notify law enforcement about the robbery, for unknown reasons, and the reports were received based on intelligence in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Yerevan police, leading to an operation to locate and neutralize the armed and masked suspect directed by Garik Ghukasyan, the head of the Yerevan police administration.
In relation to the incident, materials are being prepared in the investigative department of the central police station. The police will also need to clarify why the staff of the food point did not report to the authorities and whether their inaction could lead to new crimes, as it was possible that the perpetrator, remaining unpunished, could commit another crime. Meanwhile, Yerevan police officers displayed high professionalism, revealing not only the serious crime but also neutralizing the suspect.
