Illegal Crossing of Armenian State Border Involves Official: NSS

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has uncovered another case of illegal crossing of the state's protected border in connection with the abuse of official authority by a public official while implementing measures to ensure the protection and inviolability of the state border.

According to the pre-investigation conducted by the NSS Investigative Department, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 308, Part 1, and Article 329, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. It has been determined that G.P., a senior inspector of the state border control department of the border protection troops of the NSS, failed to fulfill his official duties on July 20, 2018, while on duty, due to personal interests and at the prompting of his acquaintance N.A. He did not carry out border control over individuals and vehicles crossing the state border of Armenia, allowing A.G. to illegally cross the border without due supervision through the control checkpoint, and did not take actions to prevent this, nor did he enter the violator's data into the border electronic management information system, thereby assisting A.G. in unlawfully crossing the state border of the Republic of Armenia.

Based on a combination of interconnected, credible and sufficient evidence obtained in the case, G.P. has been charged under Article 308, Part 1, and Article 38-329, Part 1 of the Criminal Code for abuse of official authority and assisting in the illegal crossing of the state border. He has pleaded guilty and given confessional statements. N.A. has also been charged under Articles 38-308, Part 1, and 38-329, Part 1 of the Criminal Code. A signature not to leave is chosen as a measure of restraint against them.

Currently, measures are being taken to determine the location of the violator and hold him accountable, and the pre-investigation continues.
