Supporters of Defeated Candidate Block Road in Vardenis

According to ArmLur.am, supporters of Vahan Zaroyan, the defeated candidate in the recent elections for the head of the Vardenis community in the Gegharkunik region, blocked a road during the night to prevent the ballot boxes and reports from being taken out of the city.

In connection with the situation, the media spoke with Aram Melkonyan, the acting mayor who has reportedly won the elections based on preliminary data. He confirmed the closure of the road but had difficulty explaining why this action was taken. He noted that the reports are still in the city and that he personally does not wish to go there to avoid escalating tensions.

About an hour later, thanks to the explanatory efforts of Vardenis police, the protesters opened the roads, agreeing to block them again at 10 AM the following day. They insist that Aram Melkonyan, the candidate supported by Gegharkunik Governor Gnel Sanosyan, has not won, even though celebrations are already taking place in the city.
