Assad Calls Erdogan an 'American Servant'

The President of Syria, Bashar Assad, has stated that the second part of the Syrian opposition's constitutional committee does not represent the Syrian people but rather reflects Turkey's perspective.

It is noted that the decision to create the constitutional committee for Syria was adopted during the Syrian National Dialogue Congress held in Sochi in January 2018.

According to Assad, representatives of the Syrian government in the committee convey the viewpoint of the Syrian state and its people.

“There is another side that logically should represent the second side of the Syrians, which does not align with the state's position. However, as is known, that side represents the Turkish state; they do not represent either the Syrian side or themselves. The question arises: are we discussing the Syrian or the Turkish constitution with this committee?” Assad said during a speech to local government leaders, which was broadcast on Syrian television.

He pointed out that the political process initiated in Geneva in 2012 has not succeeded due to the politics of enemy countries of the Arab state. “Our enemy countries stubbornly impede any settlement process, even if it is serious, as seen in the processes in Sochi and Astana, which at least were positive and successful,” Assad stated.

In his remarks, Assad referred to Turkey's leader Erdogan as an 'American servant.'
