Hearing of Appeals in Armen Gevorgyan's Case to Commence on January 11

The hearing of appeals in the case of former Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan will take place on January 11 at 11:00 AM. This was stated by Gevorgyan's lawyer, Erik Aleksanyan, in our conversation.

Both the prosecution and the defense have submitted appeals in this case.

The prosecution is contesting the first instance court's decision not to detain Gevorgyan. The defense has also partially appealed the court's decision. The issue is that the court found there is sufficient suspicion regarding one of the actions attributed to Gevorgyan, yet there are no grounds for detaining him. This pertains to the charge related to Article 190 of the RA Criminal Code (money laundering of large amounts). This circumstance is what the defense is contesting.

The first instance court also ruled that there are no sufficient grounds to suspect Gevorgyan of committing the actions allocated to him under two articles: aiding in the overthrow of constitutional order and receiving particularly large bribes as a public official.
