Brussels Criticizes the Roadmap Presented by Armenia: Ashotyan

The current weakness of Armenia’s foreign policy continues to deepen not only in the direction of Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia, or the Eurasian Union, but also towards Europe. This was stated by Armen Ashotyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, on his Facebook page.

Below we present the analysis titled “EU-Armenia: A Year of Missed Opportunities (Part One).”

“After the change of government, the promised capitalization of foreign policy did not occur, and it is no longer realistic due to the unprofessional and drum-beating approach of the new administration.

The media aligned with Nikol Pashinyan may continue to showcase cheap shows for domestic consumption, but the post-change fiasco is now a reality.

The Armenia-EU agreement signed in November 2017, which was to be provisionally applied from June 1, 2018, has not only failed to materialize into anything tangible, nor has it become a benchmark for the country's reforms, but has also politically lost its former charm and luster. Delayed, amateurish, and sluggish, Nikol Pashinyan’s government last year also failed to approve the roadmap for the implementation of this agreement, which was scheduled to be implemented last December in the form of a government decision.

According to my sources in the EU, the roadmap proposal submitted by the Armenian government has been subject to relentless criticism in Brussels and requires additional revisions. This was also evidenced by Nikol Pashinyan's remarks during the intergovernmental commission meeting held last December. Incidentally, I was not invited to that meeting for ridiculous reasons, despite still being a member of the commission.

They did not invite me so that Nikol Pashinyan would not have to answer uncomfortable questions that expose the government’s inefficacy.”
