Ministry of Diaspora Comments on Events in Karaganda

The Armenian Ministry of Diaspora has issued a statement regarding the events that took place in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, on January 1 and the following days.

“The Armenian Ministry of Diaspora is closely monitoring the developments in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, in recent days, maintaining constant communication with representatives of the local Armenian community and expressing its deep concern regarding the incident.

We find it unacceptable to attempt to shift the crime that occurred on a domestic basis to an interethnic level. We deeply sympathize with the family and loved ones of the victim and hope that the investigation will uncover the full circumstances of the incident, and that those responsible will be brought to justice.

The Armenian community in Kazakhstan has historically played a significant role in various aspects of the republic's life, and thus such incidents should not affect the future activities of the community and the warm, fraternal relations between the two peoples,” the statement reads.
