VIDEO: Javakheti Armenians Block Armenia-Georgia Border, Demand Meeting with Armenian Government Officials

For several hours now, residents of Javakheti have blocked the Armenia-Georgia Ninotsminda-Bavra border crossing. Jnews.ge reports that they are demanding a meeting with members of the Armenian government to address the issue concerning individuals who hold dual citizenship and are currently wanted in Armenia.

The issue arises for young people who have received Armenian passports upon returning home from Russia; they are faced with a difficult decision upon entering Armenia. They must either be conscripted into the Armenian army or face imprisonment for a term of five years.

Citizens are demanding that the Armenian authorities allow the youth of Javakheti to live without fear of conscription. "We have gathered to find a solution to this issue; the people of Javakheti have families and numerous problems to solve," said one of the protesters.
