What Has Robert Kocharyan Complained to the Human Rights Defender?

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, stated today during a press briefing that he visited Robert Kocharyan the day after his arrest and held a private conversation with him.

“We discussed all issues related to the authority of the Human Rights Defender. Based on the outcomes of the private conversation, we have prepared relevant documents and inquiries regarding the issues raised during our discussion,” he said.

In response to the question of what exactly Robert Kocharyan complained about, he replied, “At this moment, I cannot disclose that because a procedural discussion is underway and I also have the obligation to guarantee the confidentiality of the private conversation. We are also in contact with the lawyers. I want to emphasize one important thing—the particular crime that a person is accused of does not matter to me as the Human Rights Defender; I am obligated to fulfill my duties. I do not work to please anyone but rather to carry out my functions. This has been done by all human rights defenders.”

He emphasized that Robert Kocharyan did not express any dissatisfaction regarding the attitude of the prison staff.
