Snow and Black Ice: Current Conditions on the Roads

The Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies of Armenia reports that as of December 13 at 09:30, snowfall has been observed on the highways of the regions of Ashotsk, Spitak, Aparan, Aragats, Artik, Ijevan, Sevan, Gavar, Martuni, Vayk, and Sisian, as well as on the Talin-Maralik-Akhuryan road section and the Vardenyats Pass.

There are areas of black ice on the roads in Gavar, particularly on the Mastara road section and the Vardenyats Pass. Blizzard conditions are present in the Aparan-Kuchak section and on the roads in Gavar.

Due to the blizzard and poor visibility, the Vardenyats Pass is closed. Road construction crews are actively clearing the roads and applying salt and sand for treatment.

Other interstate and republican significance roads are clear.

According to the Road Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, as of December 13 at 10:00, the Stepantsminda – Lars road is closed for all types of vehicles.
