Soldiers Appeal to Pashinyan Through Open Letter
A group of soldiers has sent an open letter to acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan requesting clemency for the mother of their comrade, Hasmik Sargsyan.
It is noteworthy that Hasmik Sargsyan has been sentenced to five years in prison for theft.
The letter states:
“Dear Mr. Pashinyan,
We are a group of soldiers who are very concerned about the family misfortunes of our comrade. His mother, Hasmik Sargsyan, has become known to the public as a woman who committed theft for the sake of her children. Now she is facing five years in prison. Without delving into the legal details of the case, we would like to express our opinion regarding the situation. We cannot even imagine that our comrade, who will be discharged in a month, could go home and not see either his mother or his underage sisters. Moreover, he may even return to have no home, as the family does not own a separate apartment and lives in rental accommodation. After the mother’s imprisonment, the children will be evicted from that home, as there is no one to cover the rent expenses.
Mr. Pashinyan, we simply urge you to grant clemency to our comrade’s mother, to show mercy and compassion. Please understand that Hasmik Sargsyan was forced to take a criminal step to save her children from hunger. She has saved those children also for the sake of our country, and thanks to that step, we have the wonderful comrade by our side.
Punishing Hasmik Sargsyan will not bring justice in our state but will only eliminate a family that has already faced serious difficulties and hardships.
We expect your personal intervention.”
