The trial of Hayk Sargsyan, the nephew of the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, is ongoing at the Shengavit residence of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction today, December 12.

Hayk Sargsyan is charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition in connection with a crime that occurred 11 years ago. He faces charges under Article 34-104, Part 1 (attempted murder) and Article 235, Part 1 (acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

According to the indictment, on April 1, 2007, around 4:00 PM, in a room located in the basement of his residence at 11 Tumanyan Street, Yerevan, Hayk Sargsyan allegedly fired a SIGSAUER pistol, which he had illegally acquired and possessed, at Davit Simonian with the intent to unlawfully take his life, hitting him in the abdomen.
