«Shahnazaryan Cannot Know What Happened in Omar» - Samvel Babayan

«Zhoghovurd» newspaper writes that the battles that took place at the Omar elevation on December 27, 1993, during the Artsakh liberation war have become a topic of political discussion. In particular, Davit Shahnazaryan, one of the candidates on the Republican Party's electoral list, accused Sasun Mikayelyan, the commander of the ‘Sasun’ unit representing the ‘My Step’ alliance, of surrendering the Omar elevation. In response, Sasun Mikayelyan stated in an interview with ‘Zhoghovurd’ that the Omar elevation had already been surrendered before he arrived there.

In connection with these events, former Minister of Defense of Nagorno-Karabakh Samvel Babayan provided details in an interview with ‘Zhoghovurd.’ He stated, “To say that Sasun Mikayelyan surrendered Omar is nonsense... Davit Shahnazaryan cannot know what happened in Omar because only the soldier and officer standing there can know.”

According to Babayan, there was a surprise large-scale attack that day, and the Armenian forces retreated across the entire front. However, he also noted that after that retreat, there was a counterattack, and everything ended with a victory for the Armenian side when Azerbaijan requested a ceasefire on its knees.
