An Additional Holiday Will Be Added to the Calendar: A Proposal

The Prime Minister's Office has presented a proposal for public discussion on e-draft.am, suggesting that June 23 be recognized as Public Servant Day according to the Law on Holidays and Memorial Days of the Republic of Armenia.

The rationale states, "The Government of the Republic of Armenia has established specific days for various public service sectors, such as the day for the National Security Service on January 8, Rescue Worker Day on September 4, Prosecutor's Day on July 1, Enforcement Officer Day on May 5, Investigator's Day on October 8, Police Day on April 16, Penal Service Day on October 19, and International Human Rights Day on December 10, among others. This situation creates a diversity of public service days, which contradicts the current agenda for the development of public service. In this context, it is emphasized that a unified day for public servants should be declared in the Republic of Armenia.

The adoption of this proposal aims to assess, encourage, promote, motivate, appreciate, and highlight the role and importance of public servants in the stable development of the country, effective delivery of public services, and in formulating a unified policy by applying new ideas and the experience already gained.

On December 20, 2002, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 23 as "Public Service Day" through resolution 57/277, which states in its 3rd point that "The General Assembly declares June 23 as United Nations Public Service Day and encourages member states to organize special events on that day to highlight the contribution of public service to development processes."
