When the Time Comes, Armenia Will Make Its Choice: Mirzoyan on Armenian-Russian Relations
Armenia does not wish to bring tension into its relations with Russia. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a joint press conference with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Jankauskas.
"We are not planning to have a 'divorce' with any partner in our relations. In general, politics and diplomacy do not recognize such divorces particularly throughout history. We also do not plan to introduce tension into Armenian-Russian relations. We are partners connected by numerous ties, and we are committed to developing these mutually beneficial relations in an atmosphere of healthy discussion. Are there issues? Certainly. But I believe there are problems in all possible relations in the world, and constructive solutions simply need to be found for those problems," said Mirzoyan.
Regarding reminders from Russia that it is not possible to be a member of both the EAEU and the EU, Mirzoyan pointed out that Armenia understands this very well.
"Our approach to continuing relations with the EU will persist. When the time comes, and it matures, there will be a moment when we must make a decision on being part of this or that family of countries, and we will make that decision. There is nothing new here, and it is not for others to tell us about this," he stated.
It should be noted that Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Jankauskas is on an official visit to Armenia.
