The Ministry of Internal Affairs Clarifies the Incident of a Dispute on the Masis-Echmiadzin Highway

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has clarified the circumstances of the dispute that occurred on the Masis-Echmiadzin highway and denies reports of gunfire.

“Some news outlets distorted reality while reporting on the brawl that took place near a car wash on May 11 along the Masis-Echmiadzin highway, claiming that gunshots were fired. The police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs act strictly within the framework of legal powers, carrying out their functional duties and orders appropriately. Targeting police officers unjustly and employing manipulative tactics appear to have the intent to mislead the public at the least,” the statement reads.

On the night of May 11, at 1:30 AM, a report was received by the Masis division of the Community Police regarding a dispute between a group of individuals at a car wash on the Masis-Echmiadzin highway. Operational groups were dispatched to the indicated location based on the call.

It was determined through operational-investigative measures that at around 11:20 PM, a group of individuals grossly violated public order, openly displayed disrespect towards society, argued, insulted, and physically assaulted each other, after which they fled the scene, leaving their vehicles behind.

As a result of further measures, three participants in the dispute were identified, arrested, and transferred to the Masis division. The identities of other participants and certain circumstances of the dispute were established through the efforts of the Criminal Police of the Ararat region and the Community Police of Masis.

Another six participants in the brawl were identified, arrested, and taken to the police station. The arrested individuals were presented with documentation to the investigative body.

We urge media colleagues to publish only verified information and not to distort the actual situation. For any clarifications or comments regarding any information, while maintaining partnership relations, you can contact the Public Communication and Awareness Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the announcement concludes.
