The Uncle of Children Arrested in Vedi: Details

Lawyer Ruben Melikyan reports that the uncle of the 15 and 17-year-old girls who were victims of sexual violence is currently in custody in Yerevan. The case against the man involves two episodes, one of which is related to him assaulting a police officer from the Vedi division. This case is under the jurisdiction of the Masis Investigative Committee.

Ruben Melikyan notes that the investigative escort from the detention facility is being carried out by officers from the Vedi division, who are involved because the man is charged with assaulting their colleague. The lawyer describes this as a "systemic abuse of power." The second episode pertains to the uncle inflicting bodily harm on one of the individuals accused of sexually assaulting his nieces, reportedly stabbing them.

The legal representative of the girls, lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan, previously stated that the uncle's actions were motivated by the inaction of law enforcement, prompting him to seek vigilante justice. According to the lawyer, the altercation between the uncle and the police officer occurred in the police station amid threats and insults made during a phone conversation.
