Pashinyan Refutes Rumors About Health Insurance Cancellation
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has denied rumors suggesting that universal health insurance will be canceled after the parliamentary elections scheduled for June. During a meeting with citizens in the town of Sisian in the Syunik province as part of the campaign for the Civil Contract party, the Prime Minister stated: "Do not believe those who say that health insurance will be canceled after the elections. That is out of the question."
Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan also assured that the system will not only continue to operate but will also expand to include new groups of beneficiaries. According to the minister, the entire population of the country will be included in the insurance system within the next two years. She also indicated that starting January 1 of next year, all working citizens will join the insurance, regardless of their earned salary.
The implementation of universal health insurance in Armenia is set to begin on January 1, 2026, on a phased basis. In the first phase, beneficiaries will include those earning 200,000 AMD or more, children under 18, pensioners over 65, as well as persons with disabilities.
