Video: Armenia and the EU Closer Than Ever, Says von der Leyen
During the inaugural Armenia-EU summit, an extended meeting took place with the participation of the Prime Minister of Armenia, ministers, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“There has always been a special bond between Armenia and Europe. Our ties stem from myths and ancient civilizations, but it’s not only our shared history and culture that unites us; it is also the possibilities that lie ahead, which also bring us together,” von der Leyen stated, emphasizing that Armenia and the European Union are closer than they have ever been.
“Armenia can become a regional hub for new trade routes, especially in terms of critical raw materials. Europe is ready to assist with both physical infrastructure because those goods and raw materials need to be transported. We are prepared to support local energy production and energy connections through the Black Sea, and also to integrate your digital space into the European digital realm for further growth and development,” she said, stressing, “The entire region from Ukraine to Iran is shaken by war, while here in the South Caucasus, it’s a different story, a different situation.”
