European Parliament and PACE Target Azerbaijan: Aliyev

During the plenary session of the ECHR summit, Ilham Aliyev stated that the European Parliament and PACE are targeting Azerbaijan by spreading lies and slander.

During the summit, Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to the European Commission for its position on the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, but criticized the European Parliament and PACE. He reminded that Azerbaijan has been a member of the Council of Europe since 2001 and that their delegation has not been subject to any restrictions until January 2024.

Referring to the European Parliament, Aliyev noted that from May 2021 to April 30, 2026, the body has adopted 14 false and insulting resolutions regarding Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the latest resolution was adopted just four days before the summit.

According to him, the European Parliament, instead of addressing its own issues, slanders Azerbaijan for defending its territorial integrity and bringing war criminals to justice.

The President of Azerbaijan announced that on May 1, the country's parliament officially decided to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament in all areas, cease participation in the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and initiate the procedure for leaving the "Euronest" Assembly.

"I simply decided to inform my partners about what is happening in this direction to avoid misinformation and manipulation," he concluded.
