The first EU-Armenia summit will take place in Yerevan on May 4-5, marking a significant advancement in their relationship and reaffirming the European Union’s strong commitment to Armenia's sovereignty, resilience, and reform agenda.
Participants will include President Ursula von der Leyen, President Antonio Costa, as well as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who will represent Armenia. EU High Representative Kaia Kallas will also take part in the summit.
According to the official website of the EU Delegation to Armenia, “During the summit, the leaders will summarize the progress noted in bilateral relations over recent times and will encourage further strengthening of cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, connectivity, and security. They will also discuss joint efforts to bolster stability and sustainable development in the South Caucasus.”
The agenda will also cover regional and global developments, particularly those occurring in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Among the key outcomes of the summit will be the launch of the EU-Armenia connectivity partnership, which will encompass transportation, energy, digital technologies, and interpersonal interactions through high-level dialogue formats. This will be complemented by initiatives aimed at mobilizing private EU investments in Armenia.
At the same time, both sides will confirm their readiness to deepen cooperation in security and defense matters, including the establishment of a new EU partnership mission in Armenia.
Additionally, the leaders will participate in a pre-signing ceremony for working agreements between the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
The first EU-Armenia summit signifies tangible outcomes in cooperation and the European Union’s commitment to fostering peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus. A joint press conference for the leaders will be held following the summit,” the statement says.
