This action is taking place amid a dispute between U.S. President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. On Thursday, Trump criticized Merz for his claim that Iranian negotiators had "humiliated" the United States. The U.S. president stated that the German chancellor is doing "a terrible job" and pointed out issues he has with energy and immigration.
As of December of last year, more than 36,000 American military personnel were stationed at bases in Germany, making it the largest U.S. military presence in the European region.
