New Turn in US-Iran Negotiations: CNN

Washington and Tehran are considering the possibility of restoring the pre-war situation, CNN reports.

According to the network's information, the current negotiations are focused on a phased process. The priority of a potential agreement will pertain to reverting to the pre-war status quo and reopening the Strait of Hormuz without tariffs.

Issues related to Iran's nuclear program are expected to be discussed later. Despite the second round of negotiations not taking place in Islamabad, the parties are expanding their active diplomatic activities, and their positions are quite close.

Mediators are pressuring both countries to reach an agreement, and in this context, the coming days will be crucial. Last week, US President Donald Trump unilaterally extended the ceasefire with Tehran until the completion of the negotiation process.

At the same time, the Al Mayadeen television channel reported that Iran presented a three-phase framework for dialogue to Washington through mediators. The first phase involves a cessation of hostilities and guarantees to refrain from military operations against Iran and Lebanon.

In the second phase, the parties are to discuss the management of the Strait of Hormuz following the conflict. Transitioning to the third phase concerning the nuclear program will only be possible if an agreement is reached on the first two points.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the American side is skeptical about the proposal to reopen the strait and delay the nuclear topic. It is expected that Washington will soon present counter-proposals.
