Biometric Passports to be Introduced Soon to the Public, Says Pashinyan
Earlier, we reported that Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan stated in a government meeting that changes are expected to eliminate all the deformations that have existed for years regarding identification documents, including the issuance of passports and other related components.
"A new biometric system is anticipated to be implemented in Armenia, along with all its infrastructure, in accordance with high standards," the minister said.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also emphasized the importance of the legislative changes, stating, "They are related to the implementation of a biometric passport system. We have been particularly intensive in working on this system over the past year," he remarked, adding that the new passport design is already in place.
"We will present this design to the public soon. I want to emphasize that we paid special attention to ensure that the images on the passports reflect our origins," he noted, mentioning that this is the business card of the state.
According to him, all border points will have a contactless (non-contact) crossing option. "This means that a citizen scans their biometric passport and enters Armenia without any contact," he explained, adding that this trend may also be implemented in other countries if there is an agreement between both parties.
