EU to Provide Loan of 90 Billion Euros to Ukraine

The ambassadors of EU member states have agreed on financial aid to be provided to Kyiv and new sanctions against Russia. During a meeting held in Brussels, the permanent representatives of EU member states approved the provision of a loan of 90 billion euros to Ukraine. Together with this financial support package, the 20th set of sanctions against Russia has also been confirmed.

This decision became possible after Hungary and Slovakia lifted their vetoes. The representative of Cyprus, which holds the presidency of the EU Council, confirmed the agreements reached in a conversation with reporters. According to official sources, the consensus at the ambassadorial level is an important step towards the final adoption of the projects.

The intended loan funds are expected to be directed towards maintaining Ukraine's economic stability and post-war recovery programs. Despite the agreement reached at the ambassadorial level, procedural regulations require the decisions to receive final and unanimous approval from the European Union Council. Only after this stage will the new package of sanctions and the provision of financial aid come into legal force. The EU Council is expected to discuss the matter in upcoming meetings.
