Tigran Abrahamyan Responds to Onik Gasparyan's Statement

During the 44-day war, former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan suggested addressing all questions related to the topic in a closed format in the National Assembly, aiming to 'blow up all the circulating lies and unwarranted speculations.' This was stated by National Assembly member Tigran Abrahamyan on his Facebook page.

'The first thing that surprised me is that this heavy topic related to war has been circulating for six years, and it is only now that it has started to concern Gasparyan. Why wasn’t the former Chief of Staff concerned when the ruling regime slandered, insulted, and discredited the servicemen who went to fight under his command? What did the man who has passed through the ranks of generals feel when the parents of his fallen soldiers were being dragged and subjected to violence in Yerablur? Why did Onik Gasparyan not make emotional statements when Azerbaijan invaded and occupied the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia between 2021 and 2023? Why was Gasparyan silent when, in 2023, the Azerbaijanis initiated aggression against Artsakh, which was under blockade, and subsequently seized it?'

'Why does Gasparyan only become anxious, tense, and irritated when his name is mentioned in any connection with wartime circumstances? If you nevertheless decided to speak, then let me say that you clearly chose a bad format. Your message should be public, and the format of meetings and communications with interested individuals and groups should be conducted with mutual agreement. None of us are judges, nor are we free from mistakes, but it is never too much to apologize for them and to move on the right path. The measure of each person’s legal, political, and moral responsibility can objectively be determined only when the necessary conditions for that have been formed—at least after a change of power.'

It should be noted that Onik Gasparyan, the former Chief of the General Staff, made a statement saying, 'Dear compatriots, in recent days, false news about wartime and post-war events has been thrown into the information field by certain individuals, exploiting my name. Those spreading false information do so using the fact that I, prioritizing national and state interests, refrain from making public clarifications about the war-related issues.'
