Russia May Strike: Swedish Intelligence on Threats from Moscow
Swedish Armed Forces Commander Mikael Claesson has stated that Russia may be preparing to take actions against the North Atlantic Alliance. In an interview with The Times, the senior military official noted that official Moscow will attempt to "test the waters" to understand how the alliance might respond to potential crises, especially amidst existing political disagreements between Europe and the USA.
The strategically significant Gotland island is considered a potential target. According to Claesson, the island may be subjected to sudden attacks both via naval and airborne means. Nevertheless, the Swedish command emphasizes that Russia possesses many other scenarios for carrying out actions, which necessitates maintaining vigilance.
Meanwhile, Sweden's military intelligence has highlighted a trend in the increase of threats originating from Russia in its latest report. Experts predict that tensions in the region will continue to rise due to new geopolitical realities and efforts to strengthen control over the Baltic Sea.
