European Court Compels Azerbaijan to Provide Prisoner Judgments

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has compelled Azerbaijan to furnish prisoner judgments by August 31, as reported by the International and Comparative Law Center NGO.

The statement notes that Azerbaijan continues to submit applications to the European Court of Human Rights, seeking the removal of the interim measure requiring Azerbaijan to regularly provide information about the conditions of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, as well as their health status. Azerbaijan asserts that all proceedings are conducted transparently and publicly.

On April 9, 2026, the ECHR rejected Azerbaijan's application, once again obligating the Azerbaijani government to continue providing information regarding the conditions of detainees, including their latest medical data and documents relating to medical examinations and treatments performed.

The European Court has also mandated that copies or summaries of judgments made in criminal proceedings against Armenian prisoners be submitted, which must include the reasoning of the judges who made the decision, based on the evidence present in the case.
