Russia and Azerbaijan Release Joint Statement
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Azerbaijan have issued a joint statement regarding the resolution of the consequences of an aviation incident. According to the document released on April 15, 2026, by the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia, the parties have reached an agreement on eliminating the consequences of the crash of the Azerbaijani airline AZAL's Embraer 190 aircraft.
The incident occurred near Aktau on December 25, 2024, due to an unintentional action of the air defense system within Russian airspace. The joint statement notes that issues related to compensation payments have also been addressed within the framework of agreements made during the meeting of the presidents of the two countries on October 9, 2025, in Dushanbe.
It is emphasized that the steps taken demonstrate a desire to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of allied interaction. The parties expressed confidence that Russian-Azerbaijani relations, based on mutual respect and consideration of interests, will contribute to strengthening friendship for the benefit of both peoples.
