The Investigative Committee Responds to Aram Vardevanyan

Defense attorney Aram Vardevanyan claims that at a certain stage in the investigation regarding Samvel Karapetyan, the Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee, who was assigned to the mentioned case, resigned. This was stated by Investigative Committee spokesperson Kima Avdalyan on her Facebook page.

“In this regard, we find it necessary to clarify that no deputy of the chairman of the Investigative Committee has resigned during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case. The defense also stated during the interview that they asked to separate a part of the case and send it to court during the fourth month of the investigation, however, the Investigative Committee clarified that there is no such procedural tool available,” Avdalyan wrote.

She noted that at the initial stage of the investigation, the defense had requested to separate a segment relating to the “call” and send it to court. However, such a legal possibility is not provided by the Criminal Procedure Code, considering that criminal proceedings were initiated against Samvel Karapetyan not only for that but also for money laundering, fraud, and organizing tax evasion.

In other words, there is no legal procedure that would allow the separation of criminal charges against the same individual into parts, enabling the continuation of the preliminary investigation for one part while sending another part to court. Regarding the defense's other statement that a part has been separated from the case, it should be noted that this refers to the initiation of a new investigation encompassing the entire volume of criminal prosecution against Samvel Karapetyan, rather than a division of charges.
